for Sue.

I recall I found you: sat
beneath an ageing sky and a new moon
fire-light taunting secrets from your eyes
like old friends in a sea of stars.

I remember sharing moments deeper
than forever on a night when trust
turned friendship into a love without illusion:
when the poet lost himself in dreams
he could not rhyme

but lay with you:
held you as dawn was yet silently breaking
and in a velvet of caresses breathed despair upon
the windows of a new day

that innocence could be so easy.
